In the first half of the current year, Turkey's steel exports decreased by 2.5 percent year on year to 9.4 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $7.1 billion, up 22.4 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB). In the same period, the largest year-on-year decreases in steel exports were recorded in the US - one of the most important export markets for the Turkish steel industry - followed by Singapore and Iraq.
Meanwhile, in the January-June period this year, Turkey's main exported steel product was rebar with total exports amounting to 2.7 million mt, falling by 16.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Rebar was followed by hot rolled flat steel exports amounting to 1.7 million mt, welded pipe exports totaling 976,000 mt, steel section exports amounting to 848,000 mt and wire rod exports reaching 817,000 mt.
In June alone, Turkey's steel exports went up by 13.1 percent year on year to 1.6 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $1.2 billion, up 34.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
