With the beginning of the new EU quota period between January 1 and March 31, some of the import quotas for certain steel products allocated for certain countries under the “other countries” category and for China, Taiwan and India have already been exceeded, while over 40 percent of quotas for some steel products have been used up.
Accordingly, the 138,766 mt quotas for non-alloy and alloy hot rolled sheets allocated for Vietnam and Japan under “other countries” have been exceeded, with 150,920 mt and 181,874 mt of the given products from these two countries respectively waiting for customs clearance. China has exceeded the quotas of 126,811 mt for metallic coated sheets (4B) and 4,861 mt for stainless hot rolled quarto plates, with 181,916 mt and 5,644 mt of the given products respectively waiting at EU ports. The quotas of 42,389 mt for organic coated sheets and 36,699 mt for tin mill products allocated for “other countries” have also been exceeded, with 50,047 mt and 60,445 mt of the given products respectively waiting for customs clearance. In addition, Taiwan and India have exhausted their quotas of 45,523 mt for stainless cold rolled sheets and strips and 31,384 mt for stainless bars and light sections, respectively.
Meanwhile, Egypt and Taiwan have used up 54.87 percent and 80.60 percent of their 138,766 mt quotas for HRC under “other countries” respectively. India has used up 43.22 percent of its 77,727 mt organic coated sheet quota, while 63.18 percent of its 136,325 mt rebar quota allocated for “other countries” has been used up. In addition, the 18,012 mt quotas for wire rod allocated for Malaysia and Algeria under “other countries” have only been used up to the extent of 64.69 percent and 94.77 percent, respectively.
Looking at the quotas allocated for Turkey, the country has used up 53.70 percent, 73.31 percent and 54.89 percent of its quotas of 97,299 mt for hollow sections, 15,543 mt for organic coated sheets and 14,767 mt for large welded tubes (25B), respectively.
