As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the construction of a total of 239,500 dwellings was permitted in Germany in 2012. Compared with the same period of 2011, this indicates an increase of 4.8 percent or 11,100 buildings.

Destatis noted that the year-on-year rise in building permits for dwellings in Germany in 2012 maintained the positive trend observed since 2010. However, the high level of year-on-year growth in 2011 (21.7 percent compared to 2010) could not be reached in 2012.
