India's finished steel consumption totaled 68.89 million mt in the first ten months of the current fiscal year (started April 1), indicating a 3.5 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in January this year amounted to 7.35 million mt, increasing by 1.4 percent compared to December and rising by 4.3 percent year on year.
According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 10.7 percent year on year to 82.87 million mt in the April-January period of the current fiscal year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 17 percent in finished steel production to 9.56 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 17.1 percent to 9.19 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 14 percent to 2.58 million mt, all year on year.
