India's finished steel consumption rises 4.3 percent in April-September

India's finished steel consumption totaled 42.88 million mt  in the first six months of the current fiscal year (started April 1, 2017), indicating a 4.3 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in September this year amounted to 7.45 million mt, decreasing by one percent compared to August and rising by four percent year on year.

According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 5.1 percent year on year to 52.07 million mt in the April-September period of the current fiscal year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 4.4 percent in finished steel production to 5.95 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 19.9 percent to 5.91 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 27 percent to 1.76 million mt, all year on year.
