India's finished steel consumption totaled 20.99 million mt in the first three months of the current fiscal year (started April 1, 2016), indicating a 4.6 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in June this year amounted to 7.2 million mt, decreasing by four percent compared to May and rising by 5.3 percent year on year.
According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 6.7 percent year on year to 26.3 million mt in the April-June period of the current fiscal year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 2.3 percent in finished steel production to 2.85 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 31.8 percent to 2.9 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 25.6 percent to 892,000 mt, all year on year.
