India's finished steel consumption totaled 27.91 million mt in the first four months of the current fiscal year (started April 1, 2017), indicating a 4.4 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in July this year amounted to 6.9 million mt, decreasing by 4.2 percent compared to June and rising by 3.7 percent year on year.
According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 6.9 percent year on year to 34.4 million mt in the April-July period of the current fiscal year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 1.1 percent in finished steel production to 3.81 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 41.5 percent to 3.93 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 23.1 percent to 1.15 million mt, all year on year.
