India’s steel exports up 35 percent in July, imports rise 32 percent

India’s finished steel exports in July this year have been provisionally estimated at 513,000 mt, up 35 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year, according to data released on August 8 by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) under the ministry of steel, the sole official compiler of industry data.

However, India continued to remain a net importer of steel, importing 587,000 mt in July, a rise of 32 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year, the data showed.

India’s total crude steel production in July this year has been estimated at 11.515 million mt, marginally up by three percent, while its finished steel output has been estimated at 10.532 million mt, almost stable compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

Domestic finished steel consumption has been estimated at 10.261 million mt in July this year, a marginal growth of three percent year on year.
