Accordingly, the investigation, started by the Israeli government as a move to take safeguard measures, affect wire rods and rebars which are imported from seven Turkish, three Italian and one Spanish producer.
Commenting on the investigation, Turkish Iron and Steel Producers Association general secretary Veysel Yayan said, "The import figures in the investigation document show a contrast with the numbers revealed by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). There has not been an increase but a decrease in wire rod and rebar exports to Israel, going by the numbers revealed by the TUIK. According to the TUIK data, Turkey's wire rod exports to Israel, covered by the investigation, fell by 81.9 percent in 2008 to 2,964 mt, from 16,397 mt in the previous year, declining in value by 64.1 percent to $3.11 million in 2008 from $8.67 million in 2007. During the same period, Turkey's rebar exports to Israel declined by 26 percent as regards tonnage and by 0.7 percent in value. In Jan-Feb 2009 period, Israel did not import any wire rod from Turkey, while Turkey experienced a fall of 23.9 percent in export tonnage of rebar to Israel, and a drop of 41.3 percent in value, both compared to the year-ago period."
