According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in August this year decreased by 8.6 percent on tonnage basis compared to July, falling to six ships, down from eight ships recorded in July, totaling 277,200 gross tons, consisting of three bulk carriers. In August last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 27 ships amounting to 1.56 million gross tons.
In the first eight months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 53 ships with an aggregate of 2.58 million gross tons, down 81.4 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in August this year Japan delivered 21 ships for export, totaling 607,809 gross tons, rising from 16 ships totaling 597,338 gross tons recorded in July. In August 2015, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 14 ships with 625,797 gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-August period of the current year, Japan delivered 214 ships for export, totaling 8.82 million gross tons, rising by 5.1 percent year on year.
