According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in May this year moved up by 85.5 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, while increasing to 35 ships, compared to 27 ships recorded in April, totaling 1,701,000 gross tons including 1 general cargo ship and 34 carriers.
In the first five months of 2024, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 117 ships with an aggregate of 5.23 million gross tons, up 25.6 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in May, Japan delivered 18 ships for export, totaling 611,915 gross tons, compared to 16 ships totaling 604,652 gross tons recorded in April.
Meanwhile, in 2024, Japan delivered 86 ships for export, totaling 3.48 million gross tons, increasing 2.1 percent year on year.
