According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in February increased by 234.9 percent on tonnage basis compared to January, rising to seven ships, up from three ships recorded in January, totaling 389,500 gross tons, consisting of six bulk carriers. In February last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 14 ships amounting to 625,500 gross tons.
In the first two months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 10 ships with an aggregate of 505,800 gross tons, down 72 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in February this year Japan delivered 26 ships for export, totaling 1.2 million gross tons, falling from 45 ships totaling 1.7 million gross tons recorded in January. In February 2015, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 25 ships with 768,386 gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-February period of the current year, Japan delivered 71 ships for export, totaling 2.9 million gross tons, rising by 19.1 percent year on year.
