Taiwan-based steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC) has selected UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies to conduct a decarbonization study to help the latter reduce carbon emissions at its Kaohsiung plant in Taiwan by 25 percent by 2030.
As part of the deal, the study will zero in on reducing CSC’s carbon footprint through operational improvement and technological changes at the plant in question. Moreover, Primetals will consider possible operational enhancements for the blast furnace/basic oxygen furnace route.
Having a crude steel production capacity of about 10 million mt per year, Kaohsiung is the largest plant in Taiwan.
CSC also aims to become carbon neutral by 2050.
