Russian crude steel output rises in Jan-June 2011

In the first six months of 2011, Russia registered a 4.8 percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 34.4 million mt and a 4.6 percent rise in its finished product output to 29.4 milion mt.

During the period in question, Russia produced 23.8 million mt of pig iron - down 1.3 percent, 5.2 million mt of steel pipes - up 21.1 percent, both compared to the same period last year.

In January-June this year, Russia produced 158 million mt of coal, up 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

The country's production of metallurgical coke went down by 1.5 percent year on year to 13.6 million mt during the first six months of 2011.

In its iron ore segment, in January-June 2011, Russia produced 50.5 million mt of iron ore concentrate - up eight percent compared to the same period last year.
