The US Department of Commerce has rejected the request from oil and gas pipe producer Borusan Mannesmann Pipe US to be exempted from the 25 percent duty on imports for the duration of two years, according to media reports.

The company applied for an exemption in late June as it imports steel tubing and casing from its parent company in Turkey and finishes imported products at its Baytown plant.

Joel Johnson, the CEO of Borusan Mannesmann Pipe US, said that the Section 232 tariffs will cost the company about $30 million a year.
