According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), in September this year finished steel production in Vietnam totaled 2.34 million mt, increasing by 2.41 percent compared to the previous month and down by 4.2 percent compared to September 2022, while steel product sales in the country in the same month increased by 4.69 percent compared to August and were up by 9.4 percent year on year to 2.18 million mt.
In the third quarter, the country’s steel production reached 7.03 million mt, up by 5.7 percent, while its steel product sales totaled 6.45 million mt, up by 6.3 percent, both year on year.
In the January-September period, steel production in Vietnam totaled 20.18 million mt, down by 13.3 percent, while steel sales in the country amounted to 18.98 million mt, decreasing by 10.8 percent, both compared to the first nine months of the previous year.
Meanwhile, in August, Vietnam’s imports of finished steel increased by 18.17 percent compared to the previous month and by 63.97 percent year on year to 1.28 million mt, while in the first eight months the country’s finished steel product imports amounted to about 7.93 million mt, decreasing by 3.18 percent year on year. In the given month, the country’s exports of finished steel decreased by 1.95 percent month on month and rose by 89.52 percent year on year to 988,000 mt, while in the January-August period, Vietnam’s exports of finished steel amounted to 7.38 million mt, up by 24.44 percent year on year.
