Brazilian slab export deals close at lower than expected prices

According to sources, the first deals related to Brazilian slab shipments scheduled for March were closed in a price range of $710/mt to $715/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades. The price compares to expectations around $750/mt, unveiled earlier this week.

A source linked to an exporter mentioned that for the continuation of negotiations next week, the offers will be in the $720/mt to $735/mt range.

In 2023, Brazil exported 6.97 million mt of slab and imported 536,900 mt of the product. In 2022, the numbers were respectively 6.24 million mt and 130,700 mt.
