Over the past month, local Bulgarian longs prices have mostly fallen by BGN 20-50/mt (€10-26/mt) for merchant bar and beam prices, while remaining unchanged in the rebar and wire rod segments. Some Bulgarian mills are expected to stop production in December due to the upcoming holiday period, which may result in limited supply for certain sizes. In addition, one of the local mills claims to be more or less sold out until the end of the year to alternative non-European destinations. Therefore, its allocation for nearby markets, such as Romania, will be limited for now. In the import segment, Turkey has the most chance of selling to Bulgaria as its EU quota has still not been filled, but Turkish mills’ prices are mostly uncompetitive due to their high costs.
In the import segment, ex-Turkey rebar offers are available at $575-580/mt FOB and $590-600/mt FOB, rising by $15-20/mt over the past month. The average freight rate is around $15/mt (€14/mt) from Turkey to Bulgaria. In addition, ex-Turkey merchant bar prices are standing at $655-675/mt (€603-621/mt) CFR Bulgaria, versus $645-670/mt (€613-636/mt) CFR Bulgaria last month.
In the beam segment, ex-Turkey beam prices are at $795/mt (€731/mt) CFR Bulgaria, versus $779/mt (€740/mt) CFR Bulgaria last month, and ex-Spain material is available at €740/mt CIF, down €40/mt on the upper end over the past month. Ex-Poland beam prices are standing at €740/mt CPT, versus €730-750/mt CPT earlier. European suppliers seem to be keeping their price levels stable ahead of the holiday season in December.
