US import rebar interest continues to trend low

As the US domestic rebar market continues to trend stable, interest in US import rebar remains muted. Sources tell SteelOrbis that unless the margin between domestic and import rebar starts to widen, import inquiries are expected to remain low.

Early predictions of relative stability in the US scrap market would result in continued status quo, according to sources, and as such, US import rebar offers are unchanged week-on-week. US import rebar prices are stable at $38.50-$39.50 cwt. ($849-$871/mt or $770-$790/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Algeria and Egypt, and $39.00-$40.00 cwt. ($860-$882/mt or $780-$800/nt) DDP Houston from Mexico.
