As the US import rebar market returns from the holiday season, demand remains muted despite a slight downtick in international prices. Import rebar offers to the US have not reflected the slight downtrend, however, leaving importers waiting for an uptick in demand to boost orders.

Sources tell SteelOrbis that rebar buyers are still largely relying on domestic mills for material, as import prices aren’t particularly competitive at the moment. Import rebar offers from Egypt are still in the pre-holiday range of $40.00-$41.00 cwt. ($882-$904/mt or $800-$820/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, while offers from Mexico are still at around $40.00-$41.00 cwt. ($882-$904/mt or $800-$820/nt) DDP Houston, also unchanged in the last two weeks.
