Although there have been some slight fluctuations in international rebar prices, import offers to the US are largely the same week-on-week as the US import rebar market continues to struggle for interest. Buyers are inquiring about prices, sources say, but actual bookings are still minimal.

The downtrend in import rebar interest is evident in steel import data, which show just over 40,000 mt of rebar arriving in the US in January following closer to 70,000 mt in December. However, February numbers could be higher with the re-entry of Algerian offers into the market.

US import rebar offers from Algeria are still around $39.00-$40.00 cwt. ($860-$882/mt or $780-$800/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, unchanged in the last week, with Egyptian offers still trending around the same range. Offers from Mexico, meanwhile, are still at $40.00-$41.00 cwt. ($882-$904/mt or $800-$820/nt) DDP Houston.
