Global steel giant ArcelorMittal's Czech Republic-based subsidiary ArcelorMittal Ostrava has announced that it has officially commissioned 13 new environmental investments at the Ostrava mill. The new technologies worth CZK two billion ($84.4 million) are the largest investment in the environment over the past five years at the Ostrava mill. For these investments ArcelorMittal Ostrava has received EU subsidies amounting to CZK 1.6 billion ($67.5 million) and the total estimated cost of maintenance and operation of the facilities is about CZK 200 million ($8.44 million) annually.
According to ArcelorMittal Ostrava, the new facilities will capture an additional 520 mt of dust annually and, thanks to the reduction of 94 mt in ducted emissions, the emissions are to be reduced to the lowest level in the history of the mill, to one quarter compared to levels in 2003 when the Ostrava mill joined ArcelorMittal.
