Daily finished steel output sets a new record

SteelOrbis Shanghai According to the latest figures from China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), the average daily output of finished steel in the country increased 89.200 metric tons or 8.52 percent month on month to 1.1365 million metric tons, setting a new record. Meanwhile, the total finished output in the month increased 21.76 percent year on year to 31.8221 million metric tons. Broken down to specific categories, rebar output increased 22.7 percent year on year to 6.1494 million metric tons, while the average daily output was up 20,700 metric tons, or 10.39 percent month on month at 219,600 metric tons. Wire rod output increased 17.1 percent to 4.8775 million metric tons from a year earlier, while the average daily output rose 5,800 metric tons, or 3.41 percent to 174,200 metric tons compared to January. Medium plate output reached 1.6486 million metric tons, up 23.3 percent year on year, while the average daily output increased 4,600 metric tons or 8.59 percent month on month to 58,900 metric tons. The output of medium thick and wide coil was up 19.3 percent to 3.34 million metric tons compared to last year, while the average daily output was 119,300 metric tons, 7,600 metric tons or 6.82 percent higher than that in January. Cold rolled sheet output rose 32.2 percent year on year to 718,900 metric tons, and cold rolled coil output reached 902,400 metric tons, up 44.4 percent year on year. Hot rolled sheet output went down 11.6 percent to 245,700 metric tons from a year earlier, and hot rolled coil output increased 24.5 percent to 1.0357 million metric tons. The year on year growth rate of heavy plate, color-coated sheet/coil, CR thick and wide coil, electric steel, light rail steel, galvanized sheet/coil and CR sheet are more than 30 percent. Among which, the growth rate of heavy plate, color-coated sheet/coil and cold rolled thick and wide coil topped 84.9 percent, 45.7 percent and 44.4 percent respectively, while heavy rail and hot rolled sheet production decreased. China produced 28.3343 million metric tons of pig iron in February 2006, up 20.3 percent year on year. In February, the average daily pig iron output increased 79,360 metric tons or 8.51 percent from January to 1.0119 million metric tons. The February output of crude steel was up 17 percent at 29.4621 million metric tons year on year, while the average daily output was 1.0522 million metric tons, up 79,100 metric tons or 8.13 percent month on month. In terms of the January-February cumulative figures, the pig iron output increased 19.9 percent year on year to 57.244 million metric tons; that of crude steel increased 16.8 percent to 59.6285 million metric tons, while that of finished steel increased 21.3 percent to 52.9811 million metric tons.
