According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in March this year registered growth of 6.8 percent as compared to March 2011. In the latest Indian fiscal year (from April 1, 2011 to March 31,2012), India's motor vehicle output amounted to 20.37 million vehicles, rising 13.8 percent over the previous fiscal year.
In March of the current year, motor vehicle sales in India increased by 10.1 percent year on year, while the country's motor vehicle sales recorded for the April 2011-March 2012 fiscal year increased by 12.4 percent, also year on year, amounting to 17.4 million vehicles.
On the other hand, India's domestic sales of passenger cars in March this year rose by 19.66 percent compared to the same month of 2011, while total domestic passenger car sales of the country in the fiscal year 2011-12 increased by 4.66 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, during the fiscal year 2011-12 India's total motor vehicle exports grew by 25.44 percent to 2.9 million vehicles. Passenger vehicle exports registered growth at 14.18 percent in this period, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 25.15 percent, both compared to the previous fiscal year.
