According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in September this year registered a decline of six percent as compared to September 2011 but was up 6.9 percent month on month with 1,672,797 vehicles produced. In the first six months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2012), India's passenger car output rose 2.44 percent over the same period last year.
In April-September 2012, motor vehicle sales in India increased by 3.6 percent year on year, with the country's passenger car sales in April-September increasing by seven percent and the commercial vehicles segment registering growth of 3.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis. However, in September Indian motor vehicle sales decreased by 9.4 percent compared to September 2011, while passenger car sales declined by over 5.36 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the April-September period of this year India's total motor vehicle exports decreased by six percent year on year. Passenger car exports rose by 2.8 percent and commercial vehicle exports registered an increase of 1.9 percent in the six months in question, both on year-on-year basis. The SIAM said that car exports from India rose by 10 percent in September 2012 compared to the same month of the previous year.
