Indian motor vehicle sales down 2.1% in Q1 FY 2013-14

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in June this year decreased 4.7 percent as compared to June 2012 with 1,619,328 vehicles produced.
 
In the first three months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2013), motor vehicle sales in India decreased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, while the country's passenger vehicle sales during the three months in question declined by 7.2 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registered a fall of 8.1 percent in sales, both on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, in the first three months of the current fiscal year India's total motor vehicle exports fell by 5.65 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports registered a year-on-year decrease of 3.5 percent in April-June this year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 26.2 percent, both compared to April-June 2012.
