According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in November this year decreased nine percent as compared to November 2011 and was down 10 percent month on month with 1,646,495 vehicles produced. In the first eight months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2012), India's passenger car output rose 4.8 percent over the same period last year.
In April-November 2012, motor vehicle sales in India increased also by 4.8 percent year on year, with the country's passenger car sales in April-November increasing by 9.6 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registering growth of 2.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis. However, in November Indian motor vehicle sales increased by 1.8 percent compared to November 2011, while passenger car sales fell by 8.25 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the April-November period of this year India's total motor vehicle exports decreased by 4.6 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports rose by nine percent and commercial vehicle exports registered a decrease of 1.4 percent in the eight months in question, both on year-on-year basis. The SIAM said that passenger vehicle exports from India rose by 24.2 percent in November 2012 compared to the same month of the previous year, due to the growth in the passenger car segment.
