In February this year, Mexico's car and light commercial vehicle production volume increased by 0.7 percent year on year to 248,017 units, according to the release from the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA). In the given month, the country's car and light vehicle exports increased by 12.6 percent year on year to 197,504 units.
Meanwhile in the first two months of the current year, Mexico's car and light commercial vehicle production increased by 1.7 percent year on year to 497,417 units. In the given period, the country's car and light commercial vehicle exports increased by 6.1 percent year on year to 375,432 units.
As for exports in the first two months this year, Mexico's exports of cars and light commercial vehicles to Canada were up 27.9 percent, while exports to the US, Africa and Latin America increased by 10.5 percent, 9.8 percent and 6.6 percent respectively, all year on year. Meanwhile, in the same period, year-on-year decreases were observed in exports to destinations such as Asia and Europe, down 10.2 percent and 51.4 percent respectively.
As for domestic sales, in February Mexico's cars and light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 0.3 percent year on year to 79,938 units. In the first two months of this year, 165,442 cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in the domestic market, up 0.6 percent year on year.
