In August this year, Mexico's car and light commercial vehicle production volume increased by 4.5 percent compared to July and rose by 4.7 percent year on year to 271,406 units, according to the release from the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA). In the given month, the country's car and light vehicle exports decreased by 0.1 percent year on year to 226,757 units.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year, Mexico's car and light commercial vehicle production increased by 7.2 percent year on year to 2,128,634 units. In the given period, the country's car and light commercial vehicle exports indicated a rise of 9.6 percent year on year to 1,732,262 units.
In January-August this year, Mexico's exports of cars and light commercial vehicles to Asia, Canada and the US increased by 41.4 percent, 27 percent and 17.6 percent respectively, year on year. Meanwhile, in the same period, year-on-year decreases were observed in exports to destinations such as Africa, Europe and Latin America, down 81.1 percent, 39.8 percent and 15.5 percent respectively.
As for domestic sales, in August this year, Mexico's cars and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 17.6 percent year on year to 103,881 units. In the first eight months of this year, 700,452 cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in the domestic market, up 3.5 percent year on year.
