Rig count in the US and Canada slumps

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending September 6, the US rig count fell by nine to 1,767, compared to no change in the rig count last week. The rig count was also down 97 from 1,864 rigs during the same week a year ago. The oil rig count dropped by 23 to 1,365 while the gas rig count increased by 14 to 394.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count fell by 10 this past week to 389, compared to a 16-rig increase a week ago. The rig count was up 44 from 345 rigs during the same week a year ago.
