South Africa’s base metal export value down 24.5 percent in Jan-Apr

According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in April this year the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 3.91 billion ($232.1 million), down.63.6 percent from March. In the January-April period, South Africa's export value of base metals and articles thereof decreased by 24.5 percent year on year to ZAR 35.8 billion ($2.12 billion).

In April this year, the country's imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 4.6 billion ($254.15 million), rising by 7.3 percent from the previous month, while in the first four months of the current year, South African imports of base metals and articles thereof fell by 8.4 percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 19.27 billion ($1.14 billion).
