According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in June this year the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 13.56 billion ($1.03 billion), up 13.3 percent from May. In the first half of this year, South Africa's export value of base metals and articles thereof increased by 2.7 percent year on year to ZAR 71.41 billion ($5.43 billion).
In June of the current year, the country's imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 4.56 billion ($347 million), decreasing 9.1 percent from the previous month, while in the first half of this year South African imports of base metals and articles thereof fell by six percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 28.33 billion ($2.15 billion).
