Turkish plate market is still quiet

Not much has changed in the local Turkish plate market which has continued to remain quiet for some time now. October production plate offers have been more or less stable compared to previous months. However, Erdemir plates have moved up to the level of $730/mt ex-works as a result of the company's recent price hikes.

In the domestic market, Erdemir production plates are being traded at levels of around $800-820/mt ex-warehouse, while the sales prices of Ukrainian origin plates stand in the range of $660-680/mt ex-warehouse. The reason why Erdemir plates are sold at such high prices in the domestic market is that the producer's plate mill is currently shut down.

Import offers from Europe and Ukraine to Turkey for shipment by the end of October/early November are at the following levels:

Producer

Price

Makstil

$680/mt DDU* Turkey

ArcelorMittal Galati

$620/mt CFR Turkey

Alchevsk

$570/mt CFR Turkey

Donetsk

$520/mt CFR Turkey

Stomana

€460/mt CFR Turkey

*DDU: Delivered Duty Unpaid

Ready stock offers for Ilyich material have been more frequently heard recently, with the price levels offered for ready stock plates in the range of $540-550/mt CFR.

Bookings are mostly concluded by buyers for restocking purposes. The stagnant state of the plate consuming industries continues to hold back demand for plate compared to demand for other steel products.
