US plates in coil imports up 25.7 percent in October from September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 96,362 mt in October 2024, up 25.7 percent from September and down 11.8 percent from October 2023 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $77.2 million in October 2024, compared to $63.7 million in September and $90.5 million in October 2023.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in October with 59,102 mt, compared to 49,295 mt in September and 53,859 mt in October last year. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in October include the Netherlands, with 15,992 mt; South Korea, with 7,965 mt; Germany, with 4,885 mt; Finland, with 2,132 mt; and Sweden, with 2,043 mt.
