Mexico's steel plate consumption down 24.5 percent in October

Apparent consumption of steel plate (in coil and sheet) in Mexico decreased 24.5 percent or 91,000 metric tons (mt) in October, year-over-year, to 280,000 mt. That is the highest volume in at least the past eight months, according to Canacero data reviewed by SteelOrbis.

As for production, October was down again 18.1 percent, year-over-year, to 199,000 mt. manufactured by Ternium, Grupo Acerero and ArcelorMittal.

In the 10-month period ending in October, 2.85 million mt were consumed, 20.3 percent less or 632,000 mt compared to the January-October 2023 period. Production totaled 1.96 million mt, 16.1 percent less than the 2.34 million mt of the same period last year.
