In the January-March period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 8.35 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 11.8 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 7.42 million dwt, increasing by 23.9 percent year on year. As of the end of March, overall ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 120.35 million dwt, down 17 percent year on year and decreasing by 2.2 percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the January-March period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 7.72 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 9.6 percent year on year and accounting for 92.4 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 6.97 million dwt, up 37.7 percent year on year and constituting 93.9 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of March, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 114.92 million dwt, down 17.1 percent year on year and constituting 95.5 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
