In the January-August period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to 235.6 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 13.8 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, new ship orders of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises amounted to 23.96 million dwt, increasing by 62.4 percent year on year. As of the end of August, ship orders on the books of the shipbuilding enterprises in question totaled 84.04 million dwt, up 8.3 percent year on year.
In the January-August period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises in China totaled 21.68 million dwt, down 15.6 percent year on year. Meanwhile, new ship export orders of the shipbuilding enterprises in the period in question amounted to 21.47 million dwt, increasing by 60.0 percent year on year. As of the end of August, ship export orders on the books of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises totaled 75.47 million dwt, up 4.5 percent year on year.
