In the January-September period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 27.51 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 21.7 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 26.82 million dwt, increasing by 33.2 percent year on year. As of the end of September, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 86.54 million dwt, up 6.5 percent year on year.
In the January-September period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 25.23 million dwt, down 23.1 percent year on year and accounting for 91.7 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 23.71 million dwt, increasing by 29.6 percent year on year and constituting 88.4 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of September, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 76.85 million dwt, up 1.7 percent year on year and constituting 88.8 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
