In the January-July period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 21.81 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 26.8 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 24.04 million dwt, increasing by 81.6 percent year on year. As of the end of July, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 89.46 million dwt, up 11.4 percent year on year and increasing by 2.6 percent compared to the end of 2017.
In the January-July period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 20.02 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 28.6 percent year on year and accounting for 91.8 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 21.49 million dwt, increasing by 80.6 percent year on year and constituting 89.4 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of July, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 80.78 million dwt, up 8.4 percent year on year and constituting 90.3 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
