In the January-August period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 22.15 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 12.5 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 17.87 million dwt, increasing by 18.7 percent year on year. As of the end of August, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 114.21 million dwt, down 15.5 percent year on year and decreasing by 7.2 percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the January-August period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 20.27 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 10.5 percent year on year and accounting for 91.5 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 14.72 million dwt, increasing by 14 percent year on year and constituting 82.4 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of August, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 106.90 million dwt, down 16.7 percent year on year and constituting 93.6 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
