In the January-April period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 10.79 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 13.5 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 13.80 million dwt, increasing by 108 percent year on year. As of the end of April, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 124.28 million dwt, down 11.2 percent year on year and increasing by one percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the January-April period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 9.98 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 11.4 percent year on year and accounting for 92.4 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 13.20 million dwt, increasing by 133 percent year on year and constituting 95.7 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of April, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 118.19 million dwt, down 11.8 percent year on year and constituting 95.1 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
