In the January-September period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 24.93 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 15.1 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 18.52 million dwt, increasing by two percent year on year. As of the end of September, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 109.30 million dwt, down 18.1 percent year on year and decreasing by 11.2 percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the January-September period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 22.89 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 11.5 percent year on year and accounting for 91.8 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 15.06 million dwt, decreasing by four percent year on year and constituting 81.3 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of September, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 102.41 million dwt, down 19.4 percent year on year and constituting 93.7 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
