In the January-July period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 19.20 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 15.4 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 17.68 million dwt, increasing by 26.2 percent year on year. As of the end of July, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 117.28 million dwt, down 14.2 percent year on year and decreasing by 4.7 percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the January-July period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 17.57 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 13.1 percent year on year and accounting for 91.5 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 14.59 million dwt, increasing by 22.6 percent year on year and constituting 82.5 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of July, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 109.89 million dwt, down 15.4 percent year on year and constituting 93.7 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
