In the January-February period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 4.20 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 24.4 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on March 17. In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 950,000 dwt, decreasing by 75.1 percent year on year. As of the end of February, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 118.98 million dwt, down 19.4 percent year on year and decreasing by 3.3 percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the January-February period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 3.99 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 20.2 percent year on year and accounting for 94.9 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 860,000 dwt, down 75.2 percent year on year and constituting 90 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of February, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 113.51 million dwt, down 19.7 percent year on year and constituting 95.4 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
