In the first half this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 17.15 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 7.4 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 16.20 million dwt, increasing by 44.7 percent year on year. As of the end of June, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 119.26 million dwt, down 13.6 percent year on year and decreasing by 3.1 percent compared to the end of 2015.
In the first half this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 15.64 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 6.4 percent year on year and accounting for 91.2 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 14.32 million dwt, increasing by 53.5 percent year on year and constituting 88.4 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of June, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 112.94 million dwt, down 13.9 percent year on year and constituting 94.7 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
