India's finished steel consumption rises 3.4 percent in April-February

India's finished steel consumption totaled 76.23 million mt  in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year (started April 1, 2016), indicating a 3.4 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in February this year amounted to 7.33 million mt, decreasing by 0.2 percent compared to January and rising by three percent year on year.
 
According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 11.1 percent year on year to 91.85 million mt in the April-February period of the current fiscal year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 15.4 percent in finished steel production to 10.55 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 17.9 percent to 10.17 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 14.6 percent to 2.87 million mt, all year on year.
