India's finished steel consumption totaled 40.56 million mt in the first half of the current fiscal year (started April 1), indicating a 2.5 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in September this year amounted to 6.73 million mt, decreasing by 7.7 percent compared to August and growing by 7.6 percent year on year.
According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by nine percent year on year to 48.85 million mt in the April-September period of the current year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 21.2 percent in finished steel production to 5.73 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 8.6 percent to 4.92 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 8.2 percent to 1.39 million mt, all year on year.
