According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters’ Association (JSEA), Japan’s new ship export orders in August this year moved down by 48.1 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, decreasing to 14 ships, compared to 23 ships recorded in July, totaling 390,580 gross tons, including 12 carriers, one tanker and one general cargo ship.
In the first eight months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 164 ships with an aggregate of 6.26 million gross tons, down 29.6 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in August Japan delivered nine ships for export, totaling 228,375 gross tons, compared to 18 ships totaling 1.16 million gross tons recorded in July.
Meanwhile, in the January-August period this year Japan delivered 137 ships for export, totaling 5.84 million gross tons, decreasing by 1.3 percent year on year.
