According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in 2010 Russia exported about 38.846 million mt of ferrous metals, registering a 4.3 percent increase year on year. Of this volume, 36.14 million mt were delivered to non-CIS countries - up 3.8 percent year on year, and 2.7 million mt were supplied to CIS countries - up 10.7 percent year on year.
Russia's exports of semi-finished steel products went up in 2010 by 12 percent to about 15.74 million mt, its exports of ferroalloys increased by 15.7 percent to 910,000 mt, its exports of pig iron decreased by 14 percent to 3.89 million mt, while its flat rolled steel product exports went down by 13 percent to 8.12 million mt, all compared to 2009.
Meanwhile, in 2010, Russia registered an 8.6 percent increase year on year in its iron ore and iron ore concentrate exports to 22.24 million mt and a 24 percent growth year on year in its coke and semi-coke exports to 2.266 million mt.
On the other hand, in 2010, Russia's ferrous metal imports increased by 36.4 percent year on year to 4.965 million mt, of which 2.1 million mt were imported from non-CIS countries - up 69 percent year on year, while 2.86 million mt were supplied from CIS countries - up 19.5 percent year on year.
Russia's steel pipe imports in 2010 rose by 140 percent to 1.4 million mt, of which 735,000 mt were imported from non-CIS countries - up 299 percent year on year, while 666,400 mt were supplied from CIS countries - up 67 percent year on year.
