According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, metallurgical production in Russia in October this year registered a 0.1 percent decrease year on year, while in the January-October period a drop of 19.3 percent was recorded compared to the same period last year.
In October, Russia registered a 14.6 percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 5.5 million metric tons - up 3.5 percent month on month. In October, Russia produced 4.1 million metric tons of pig iron and blast furnace ferroalloys - up 21 percent year on year and 3.1 percent month on month, 4.5 million mt of billets - up 24.3 percent year on year and down 0.2 percent month on month, 2.6 million metric tons of long products - up 13.9 percent year on year and up 2.9 percent month on month, and 2.1 million metric tons of flat rolled products - up 33.9 percent year on year and down 2.2 percent month on month. The above flat rolled production figure includes 700,000 metric tons of cold rolled - up 13.9 percent, and 1.4 million metric tons of hot rolled - up 47.1 percent, both compared to October 2008.
In addition, in October this year Russia produced 548,000 mt of rolled products from low-alloyed steel - down 22.1 percent, 303,000 mt of coated sheet and tinplate - down 5.7 percent, 61,900 mt of cold rolled steel strip - up 30.6 percent, 64,700 mt of bent-steel sections - down 11.7 percent, and 27,500 mt of wire rod - down 21.7 percent, all compared to the same month last year.
On the other hand, in January-October this year, Russia's output of crude steel went down by 21.7 percent, its pig iron and blast furnace ferroalloys production decreased by 17.7 percent, its billet output dropped by 12.9 percent, its long product output fell by 19.9 percent, its flat rolled product output declined by 13.6 percent (including a 20.1 drop in cold rolled and a 10.3 decline in hot rolled production), its output of rolled products from low-alloyed steel decreased by 51.2 percent, its coated sheet and tinplate production went down by 19.5 percent, its cold rolled steel strip output declined by 46.9 percent, its bent-steel section production dropped by 35.4 percent, and its output of wire rod decreased by 38.5 percent, all compared to January-October 2008.
